About the School

Hawkins STEMM Academy, an urban public school and part of Toledo Public Schools, promotes high academic achievement through project-based learning, which ignites K-8 students to become innovative thinkers and problem solvers.
The teaching staff at Hawkins use a student-directed process to creatively solve real-world problems while integrating science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine. Located next to the Toledo Botanical Garden Metropark, the school’s vision is a welcoming, flexible, nurturing atmosphere emphasizing students as engaged participants in the natural world. Student learning is rooted in stewardship, inclusion, curiosity, perseverance and community, and is “In Sync with Nature.”

About the Tour

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the school facility, outdoor prairie and grounds, talk with students, and debrief with teachers and school leaders to understand how Hawkins use a project-based learning, and student-directed process to creatively solve real-world problems while integrating science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine.
