Guest post from David Burns, Director of STEM Innovations Networks at Battelle
What gets measured, gets done. The 2013 Tennessee state assessment scores, published yesterday by the Tennessee Department of Education, are evidence of that. This year’s class posted major gains in STEM. Algebra II scores alone jumped by more than 8 percent.
Tennessee teachers, students, parents, Governor Haslam and Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman deserve a round of applause. By focusing on STEM as a state, they are creating more opportunities for students from all backgrounds in the workplace of the 21st century. We’re proud of our close ties to the work in Tennessee, through both Battelle and the Ohio STEM Learning Network. In partnership with the Tennessee Department of Education, Battelle manages the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network. The Ohio STEM Learning Network also works closely with Tennessee on projects like the STEM Leaders Academy and Literacy Design Collaborative.
