The NWO Symposium is a popular professional development opportunity in the region for K-12 pre-service and in-service teachers, graduate students, school administrators and higher education faculty. The Project SMART (Science Modeling to Advance Reasoning-based Teaching for Middle School Physical Science)  is a weeklong Professional Development opportunity for middle school science teachers to learn more about implementing recommended pedagogy in their classrooms that meets state and national standards for physical science.
