NASA’s Commercial Crew Program is working with Boeing and SpaceX to design, develop, and test systems to send astronauts to the International Space Station. On November 16th, 2020, SpaceX and NASA successfully delivered four astronauts to the International Space Station, marking a new era of US spaceflight after the Space Shuttle was retired in 2011.
In this work, crew safety is essential from liftoff to splashdown back home. The SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule “Resilience” uses parachutes to safely make a landing in water after descending from the International Space Station over 200 miles above the Earth.
