Stages to designation
Step 1: Explore
Designation webinar
Join the Ohio STEM Learning Network and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce for a webinar focused on understanding the requirements and expectation associated with the newest rating in Ohio's STEM and STEAM Designation Rubric, Exceeding.
Date: October 1, 2026. 9:00-10:30 AM
Deep Dive into Designation sessions
Hosted by OSLN's regional STEM hubs, these in-person sessions provide schools teams with focused guidance, and personalized support to better understand Ohio's STEM and STEAM Designation process, assess readiness, and plan next steps on their designation journey.
Six regional Deep Dive sessions will be offered across Ohio. Dates, locations, and registration information will be announced soon.

STEM Innovation Roadmap
The STEM Innovation Roadmap is a practical guide that helps schools assess current practices, identify opportunities for growth, and develop a strategic plan for advancing STEM and STEAM education.
Step 3: Launch
Apply for STEM or STEAM Designation
The application is available through SlideRoom.

Host a site visit
Schools must meet minimum requirements to participate. See the Site Visit Protocol and Site Visit Requirements.
Step 4: Review
Receive notification
1. OSLN will notify the school of the recommendation within four weeks of the site visit.
2. The final OSLN recommendation will be submitted to the Ohio STEM Committee for their approval.
3. The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce will share the final vote from Ohio STEM Committee.
4. Designated and re-designated schools are recognized during the annual OSLN STEM Innovation Summit.
Growth plan
STEM and STEAM Designated schools that do not meet the requirements for an additional five years of designation will be recommended for a growth plan, an opportunity to work with DEW and OSLN on advancing their areas of growth.
Aspiring STEM and STEAM schools that participate in a site visit but do not meet all requirements for designation will have an opportunity to work with DEW and OSLN to strengthen identified areas and reapply the following year.
