Stages to designation
Step 1: Explore
Attend a designation review session
The Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN) and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce will host an in-person Deep Dive into Designation session on April 9, 2026, 9:00 AM–3:30 PM at Battelle, Columbus.
Complete informal self-assessment
The STEM and STEAM Designation Self-Assessment helps identify your school's areas of strength and growth. The Self-Assessment Checklist provides a quick snapshot.
Step 2: Build

Innovative Leaders Institute: Bridge to STEM
A yearlong program that equips school and district leaders to launch or deepen their STEM or STEAM vision.

Helps schools reflect on current practices and prepare for every step of the designation process.
Step 3: Launch
Host a site visit
Schools must meet minimum requirements to participate. See the Site Visit Protocol and Site Visit Requirements.
Apply for STEM or STEAM Designation
The application is available through SlideRoom. See SlideRoom Information and Application Questions.
Step 4: Review
Receive notification
OSLN will notify the school of the recommendation within four weeks of the site visit. The Ohio STEM Committee votes on the final designation.
Growth plan
Schools that do not meet requirements may work with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and OSLN on a growth plan. Contact [email protected].
