Fab Play Maker Educator Institute at Hawken School

The Fab Play – Maker Educator Institute is an annual gathering of like-minded creative spirits that just so happen to work in education! During this transformative week, we will elevate one another’s crafts, hone our skillsets, immerse ourselves in hands-on experiential learning experiences, prototype new ideas, practice new machining techniques, connect as a network, share our challenges and best practices, and celebrate our efforts from this past school year.

Our annual Flagship Summer Institute draws maker educators from all over, attending from traditional and non-traditional school settings. We welcome makerspace managers, PBL-focused educators, curriculum coordinators and administrators, library makerspace coordinators, college Fab Lab personnel, industry experts, and teachers just looking to expand their hands-on abilities and create something for themselves or their students.

Each day begins with a rapid share of project ideas and examples, open to all at the Institute, then moves into scheduled sessions while allowing opportunities for open exploration and making. Friday concludes with a showcase of work completed throughout the Institute. We also host a network social on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
