SUMMARY:BioPathways Northwest Ohio Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This one-day workshop connects Ohio 6th-12th grade life science teachers with industry professionals and career-ready curriculum. \nYou’re already inspiring students with science. Now discover how to connect that passion to Ohio’s $15 billion life sciences industry. Leave equipped with everything needed to show students their future in biotech starts in your classroom. \n“a really great experience connecting with other educators all over the state of Ohio\, and getting to meet industry leaders as well. It’s been really inspiring!” \n“gave me the opportunity to share with my students that science is happening in everyday life right here\, in companies in Ohio. The science they’re learning in my classroom translates to careers that hopefully they can envision for themselves! It really gets me excited.” \n  \nAs a result of taking part in this learning experience\, participants will: \n\nKnow… protein synthesis\, engineering design\, protein folding principles\, amino acid properties and how their properties determine protein final structure\nUnderstand… how to implement engineering design challenges\, apply these understandings to gene therapy\, vaccines\, and drug development\nBe able to… pipette accurately\, fold proteins according to chemical structure and amino acid properties\, relate activities to current industry career needs\n\nStart in the workshop and: \n\ndo hands-on science\ncollaborate with fellow life sciences educators\nuse career-focused lessons informed by Ohio industry\n\nEnjoy lunch (our treat!) with fellow teachers. \nThen\, during the industry visit\, you’ll: \n\n tour a working life sciences facility\nconnect with experts at an industry reception\nsee firsthand what students can expect from life sciences careers\n\nTake back: \n\n.9 CEUs\nmodular life sciences curriculum materials\nscience equipment for your classroom investigations\n\nPlease note that the event begins with registration at 8a ends at 6p – participants are expected to attend the full day including the tour and reception. \nRegistration is limited – Ohio teachers only. Spots fill quickly. \nBioPathways is brought to Ohio science teachers at no cost by Ohio Life Sciences\, the industry association representing the interests of Ohio’s nearly 5\,000 life sciences establishments.
