SUMMARY:Chickenology - MS/HS heredity through the lens of Chickens
DESCRIPTION:Chickenology: Explore Genetics to Breed the Best Brood\nTeach life science in grades 6–12 by taking a closer look at chickens. This 2-day workshop for Ohio science teachers is tooled to Ohio Biology standards\, so you leave ready for state testing and the science seal. \nGrowNextGen teacher leaders will guide you through 20 ready-to-use lessons:\n+ Grades 6–8: ancestry\, inherited traits\, natural selection\, and artificial selection\n+ Grades 9–12: Simpson’s Diversity Index\, Hardy-Weinberg\, cladograms\, biotechnology practices \nThe curriculum is layered with career videos\, virtual field trips\, movement songs\, e-learning modules\, games and simulations\, and project-based engineering challenges. \nTry it yourself during the workshop\, then bring home $350 in classroom supplies\, including prepared slides\, a hygrometer/thermometer\, foldscopes (student microscopes)\, and materials for the games and engineering challenges\, plus 1.8 CEUs. \nYou’ll also connect with industry experts over dinner and take a virtual tour of a local commercial operation\, since 1 in 7 Ohio jobs run through agriculture. \nComing from out of town? Meals and hotel rooms are covered. \nNote: this workshop does not include supplies for hatching chicks\, and is not intended for elementary teachers. \n“Chickenology is going to replace some stuff I’ve done in the past. It’s the same topics\, it’s just better.” —Erica Hitzhusen\, Worthingway Middle School \nChickenology is presented by GrowNextGen and funded by the Ohio Poultry Association and the Ohio Soybean Council\, in partnership with EducationProjects.org and OSU/4-H. \nGrowNextGen connects students to real-world science and careers in modern agriculture through the generous support of the Ohio Soybean Council and Ohio soybean farmers.

SUMMARY:ChickQuest - Hatching chicks in K5 classrooms
DESCRIPTION:ChickQuest: A Classroom Journey Through the Life Cycle of Chickens \nThis 4-H School Enrichment Program challenges K–5 students to use science\, engineering\, and technology to investigate the life cycle of an embryonic chicken egg. From monitoring living eggs to observing fluffy chicks\, these hands-on activities build curiosity\, collaboration\, and unforgettable classroom moments. \nOnly two workshops are offered this school year: October and April. Registration is limited to Ohio elementary teachers and extension agents\, so save your spot early. \nIn this 1-day professional workshop\, teachers learn hands-on activities designed by teachers for elementary scientists\, and leave with everything needed to bring ChickQuest to their classroom:\n+ Teacher guide\n+ Set of 25 student log books\n+ Incubator and egg turner\n+ Fertilized egg coupon\n+ Experiment supply kit\n+ Lunch and 0.7 CEUs \n“ChickQuest is one of the best teacher programs I’ve been involved in. The enthusiasm was contagious.” —a teacher\, Bexley City Schools \nProvided by the Ohio Soybean Council\, Meyer Hatchery\, and OSU Extension for the 2026-2027 school year.
