First STEM innovation summit urges educators to explore the astonishing
The Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN) will host the inaugural Ohio STEM Innovation Summit on May 12, 2023. Through the event, OSLN will recognize and celebrate the STEM educators, leaders, and partners who exemplify STEM practices that inspire students and grow Ohio’s future.Â
This year’s theme is Exploring the Astonishing. This theme was inspired by the images and data produced by successful deployment of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope. This trailblazing achievement of science and engineering reminds us of the possibilities of the future and the power of quality STEM education to shape what we can achieve together. Moreover, the James Webb Space Telescope was built through an international collaboration between NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Canadian Space Agency. Its success vividly demonstrates the importance of collaboration as we tackle big challenges.Â

Theme: Exploring the Astonishing
Through all the upheaval of the last three years, the responsibility of educating children did not change. Teachers, administrators, and their supporters have met that challenge head on, overcoming unforeseen and unpredictable obstacles.
STEM education emphasizes a culture of innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, inquiry and collaboration. To prepare our students to be our next generation of STEM leaders, Ohio educators must explore the astonishing STEM learning and teaching already taking place across the state. At the summit, we will come together to share best practices, to network with peers, and to grow together as a state.
This collaboration is essential. It is how we will prepare today's students will solve the problems of tomorrow.
The Webb Telescope has shown us that as we explore further into the horizon, we can embrace the unexpected beauty and complexity in our vast universe. STEM education is the vehicle that connects students to their futures, including their own future challenges.
