DESCRIPTION:In this interactive 1-hour session learn more about what place-based education is and how it can support STEM teaching and learning. Leave the session with ideas for lessons to incorporate place-based education into your teaching. \n  \nThrough a partnership between Ohio University and Teton Science Schools\, the OSLN Southeast Hub is pleased to offer a special free\, two-part professional development series focused on place-based learning for K-12 teachers. “Place-Based Approaches for STEM Learning:” \nIn this interactive 1-hour session learn more about what place-based education is and how it can support STEM teaching and learning. \nLeave the session with ideas for lessons to incorporate place-based education into your teaching. Certificates of Attendance available to participants. \nPresenter: Amy Lorenz\, Teacher Learning Center Faculty and Curriculum Specialist\, Teton Science Schools\nAmy taught experiential science in southern California and spent summers studying and teaching marine mammal ecology in the Canadian Maritimes before attending the TSS Graduate Program. Her masters research focused on the influence of citizen science on student attitudes\, understanding of science practices\, and sense of place. Before returning to the Tetons\, she spent three years in Cambridge\, MA with the Encyclopedia of Life project where she developed place-based biodiversity curriculum\, led schoolyard bio-blitzes\, and coordinated community science projects. She splits her time between Jackson Hole and the Bay of Fundy where she directs a marine science summer program. \nCo-Funded by U.S. Department of Energy EM PPPO\, PORTSfuture Program\, AEP Ohio Foundation\, and Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs\, along with support from the Ohio University Museum Complex \nRegister via Zoom here. \nDownload the flyer here. \nFollow up session: Finishing the school year by getting outside to learn! \nWednesday\, May 5 | 3:30-4:30 PM ET \nContinue the conversations about place-based education with this session focused on getting children outside.
