Ag Med Biotech Workshop

Ohio HS science teachers will learn more about the biotech overlap in ag and medicine with labs, activities, and a virtual field trip.

A recent nationally representative survey found that healthcare and technology are two of the highest career interest areas for young people, while only 3% of college grads and 9% of Millennials surveyed have or would consider an ag career. Yet the skills necessary are overlapping and can be applied to all. 

This pilot workshop is sponsored by GrowNextGen and BioOhio with support from BioRad. In this one-day workshop, all participants will experience:

• Introduction – Ag connection – where do these things overlap?
• Bradford Assay
• Lunch
• Virtual field trip – Alkermes (https://www.alkermes.com [alkermes.com]) 
• Chromatography
• Reflection/Closure

Participants will receive 0.7 CEUs (7 contact hours). After completing the workshop, participants will get two BioRad kits: Bradford assay to test protein content of milk and Chromatography to demonstrate protein separation.
