Applications closing soon for paid teacher externships, computer science cohort, and leadership institute

Time is running out to get your applications in for STEM professional development this year! The Ohio STEM Learning Network has three programs accepting applications now. Applications will close soon for many of these spring 2020 opportunities.

Summer STEM externship: Apply for a summer externship at a local STEM company through the Manufacturing and Engineering Externship Program. Educators in the program will complete 3-5 day externship in the summer, develop a new problem-based learning unit, and implement that new unit in their classrooms. Any Ohio K-12 teacher can apply.

Teachers who complete the program’s requirements will receive a $2,500 stipend.

Applications are due March 13 February 28. Apply here.

Innovative Leaders Institute: The Innovative Leaders Institute now is accepting applications for a new class of Ohio educators. The program is one of the few specialized training opportunities in the nation where leaders of innovative schools can learn from veteran STEM principals. The program has trained more than 250 educators in Ohio and Tennessee. The Innovative Leaders Institute is open to two-person teams of school leaders. Each team must include a principal or assistant principal and an additional building-level leader. Each applicant must complete the online application. Apply with a co-applicant by March 3.

Computer science professional development: Applications are now open for Code.org’s computer science professional development program. Battelle’s Ohio STEM Learning Network is partnering with Code.org, a nonprofit computer science curriculum provider, to support educators interested in bringing computer science to their schools.

Code.org’s Professional Learning Program is an intensive, year-long learning experience for middle and high school educators interested in teaching Code.org’s Computer Science Discoveries (middle school) or Computer Science Principles (high school) courses.
