Events, resources, and last call to register for 2020 design challenge

Will your school join the #STEMdrivesOhio Design Challenge? These resources will connect you to industry partners and bolster your programming on your way to the design challenge’s culminating event: The Student Solutions Showcase at Battelle.

At the recent P3 Applied training, the PAST Foundation partnered with diverse organizations to highlight how smart mobility is integral to the modern workforce. Each of these partner organizations offers unique programs and models to guide students of today into the future. Panelists from Akron Children’s Hospital, Goodyear, University of Akron, MAPS Air Museum and Portage Lakes Career Center highlighted programs their organizations are doing to increase wellbeing through smart mobility.

Safe Mobility Project at Akron Children’s Hospital

Akron Children’s Hospital has partnered with the Goodyear to bring awareness to unsafe transportation behaviors and calls on everyone to pledge to increase their transportation safety through The Safe Mobility Project. They also work with Safe Kids Worldwide to prevent childhood injury nationwide. Regional organizations including Safe Kids Summit County and Safe Kids Mahoning Valley incorporate community partners from regional health and social service agencies, businesses, fire and police departments, as well as many other county-wide agencies and organizations to host an event and bring awareness to serious issues facing children. Goodyear Tire Technology

Goodyear has established new tire technologies that revolve around SMART, spherical tires. Spark ideas in your classroom with these videos about how this could change the way we drive forever and the new technology that could make it possible.

MAPS Air Museum

The MAPS Air Museum offers lesson plans for teachers to incorporate aeronautical education into their classroom curriculum. Lessons can be used in the classroom or to prepare for a museum visit. Explore lessons on American/World History, Document Analysis, and Rosie the Riveter at their website. Learn more by contacting Col. The Ohio Department of Transportation with DriveOhio: Safe Routes to School Program

This program funds schools that improve student safety when walking or biking to school. This grant of up to $400,000 can support infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects for students that live within two miles of the school building. The Future of Smart Mobility in Southeast Ohio: January 31st, 2020, 9am to 2:30pm

Join DriveOhio, Buckeye Hills Regional Council, and Building Bridges to Careers for a professional development day on DriveOhio and smart mobility. The event will introduce regional smart mobility projects and offer professional development for K-12 educators in southeast Ohio who look to bring this information into their classrooms. Ohio Urban Air Mobility Symposium: February 27th, 2020, 9am to 5pm

Career Tech Center administrators, are you interested in discovering the future of the mobility workforce? Urban Air Mobility refers to the transport of passengers and goods through the air. Join the day long symposium to discover the evolution of Urban Air Mobility and what benefit this technology offer the future workforce. Sessions include:

  • Defining Urban Air Mobility and its specific use cases
  • Vehicle design, enabling technologies, and certification
  • Operational challenges: airspace integration, cyber-security, and traffic management
  • Infrastructure: planning, zoning, and financing (with Public-Private Partnerships)
  • Leveraging Ohio’s research, testing, manufacturing, and early use cases for Urban Air Mobility
