Ohio STEM designation open

Each year, a group of agencies from the State of Ohio convene to review proposals from schools that wish to be designated as STEM schools under Ohio law. Applications are open now and due by April 1.

Proposals may only be submitted by a partnership including all of the following:

  1. School (including a JVS and some community schools*) or an educational service center
  2. A college or university
  3. Local business

Our organization, the Ohio STEM Learning Network, plays a few roles in this process. We advise schools seeking STEM designation. We’re also proud to provide formal recommendations to the State of Ohio on the applications for new schools. (see Ohio Revised Code 3326) And, as new schools are awarded designation, we welcome them into our network and connect them with Ohio’s other 30+ STEM schools.

If your school is ready to make the jump to the STEM model, you need to complete the application to the Ohio Department of Education by April 1: Application page.

To ensure a strong application:

  1. Attend an introductory webinar we’re organizing on Feb. 25 at 3:30 pm where we will detail the applications, answer your questions, and hear from Stephanie M. Donofe, Director of Integrated Technology at the Ohio Department of Education. Register here.
  2. Participate in 1:1 coaching from our team on the essential elements of a successful STEM school.

If you have any questions, please post in the comments below or email [email protected].

*Community schools under Chapter 3314 of the Revised Code, a chartered nonpublic school, or both may be part of the partnership.
