College Ready by BattelleEd trainings now open to all Ohio schools.
Register now for the training series the Ohio Department of Education selected as a key provider of training to 14 schools in 2014.

Training in Math
(July update: We’re extending enrollment for College Ready Math to teams from the next two schools who apply before July 17.)
Turn students from recipients of teaching to math content leaders with these innovative classroom strategies. Piloted at nationally-recognized Ohio schools including Metro Early College, this 8-day training series is open now to teams from Ohio schools. This training is based on the Math Design Collaborative method or MDC. Read details about why the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation supports MDC.
Each team must consist of four or more staff at the school or from the district: at least three math teachers and an administrator. Why do we require such a large group? Because we’ve tested this training at 21 schools over 2 years.
Throughout these trainings, we’ve consistently seen that teachers need support to make the jump to this new, more effective practice. Our trainees constantly remark that both a community of peers and a dedicated administrator in support of the practice were essential to their success with the College Ready Math by BattelleEd trainings.
Will this training be specific to my grade level?
We’ll start off with an overview of strategies across grade levels. The College Ready Math training includes math teachers in grades six through high school. After the general overview, we structure time for you to work with our coaches and grade level teams to see how these strategies can be applied to your grade specific math standards.
On College Ready Math job embedded professional development: When someone comes into our classroom, will they be teaching the lesson to model strategies or will they be observing our teaching strategies to provide feedback?
Our coach will be in your classroom for at least one class – during this time the coach will assist you by modeling sections of the Math Design Collaborative method lesson as needed and provide an opportunity for feedback and reflection after the class.
If our school/district only has one teacher who can participate in the training, can that person still complete the training?
Taking full advantage of these strategies can involve some significant shifts in teaching practice. As we’ve trained teachers at more than 50 different schools, we’ve consistently seen the value a team of trainees provide to each other. That’s why we recommend groups from schools.
But we understand that may not be possible at every school.
If you’re completing the College Ready Math training, we’ll make every effort to pair you with a nearby school so that way our coach for job embedded training can still visit with you. If there are no schools participating in your area, you will have the option to either participate in virtual job embedded training or travel to join another school for their on-site job embedded training.
Would participants get some kind of certification from this program?
All participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program which includes the achieved learning outcomes and number of completed learning hours.
Training in Literacy

In today’s digital world, students need literacy more than ever. Modern careers and college require students analyze, synthesize, and communicate at great speed. While literacy education can be found in many classes like social studies and science, this teaching is only rarely coordinated in any consistent way with the expectations of English class. Our training brings teams of teachers from across content areas together to lay a foundation of expectations and methods. By collaborating, teachers see the quality of student work rise in each class. This training is based on the Literacy Design Collaborative method or LDC. For the literacy training, we encourage teams of at least three teachers and an administrator. We encourage teams to include teachers from the following areas: English/language arts, science, social studies. Why do we require such a large group? Because we’ve tested this training at 41 schools over 2 years.

After a general overview, the training is organized to provide time to focus on your specific content and grade level standards while working in content teams. Educators are also given time to work with school teams. Coaches support both content and school teams in applying the literacy strategies to your specific content standards.
If our school/district only has one teacher who can participate in the training, can that person still complete the training?

If you’re completing the College Ready Literacy training, individuals and small teams are welcome to participate. You will be paired with other small groups or individuals for conversations around school-wide strategies.
